The world's first AI news team
The main story 📰
Yesterday I discovered an interesting video on Twitter. It’s a 20-minute news segment presented by an AI generated news team. The presenters are eerily alive looking and could easily pass for real if you weren’t paying attention. Over on my Substack I wrote a zesty post about some of the more interesting societal implications of this realistic AI generated content.
From an investing/trading perspective, I think it’s only a matter of time before people start using AI generated content to move the markets. These AI videos will not stand up to intense scrutiny (yet?) but I don’t think they need to.
First a group of people buy millions of dollars worth of 0DTE options. Then they release an AI generated video of the CEO announcing an amazing new product or partnership. The video goes viral, the stock price goes up 3% and before anyone realizes what’s happening the group has already sold their options and cashed in on 300% gains.
Buckle up because however crazy the world has been up to this point, it’s only going to get more volatile.

Why I am filled with existential dread - Why the ongoing decline of real wages is taking us closer to a bottom up revolution. The foundation of capitalism is the promise of a continually increasing standard of life, or at the very least a flat standard. To be moving towards a declining standard puts our entire system at risk.
In 2024, the Tension Between Macroculture and Microculture Will Turn into War - This doesn’t really have much to do with markets but it was the best article I’ve read so far this week. Ted Gioia writes about the increasing conflict between the media microculture of publications like Substack & Twitter, and the macroculture of the legacy media like CNN & CNBC.
Specifically, Ted considers the strange fact that despite the rapid growth of the microculture, very few from the macroculture are willing to pay any attention to it.

A rare free podcast from Grant Williams, this one in conjunction with Doomberg. Here’s how Grant describes the episode.

I’m not sure what your feelings are, but for me 2023’s lineup of blockbuster movies has been immensely disappointing. I didn’t even think the latest Mission Impossible was that great, and I loved all the previous installments.
Just when it looks like a total write-off of a year, the Critical Drinker came out with a strong endorsement of Godzilla Minus One. Since watching this clip I’ve also read the reviews from several dozen other people and it’s near universal praise.
I haven’t been able to watch the movie yet and can’t verify the reviews, but I’m excited to check it out as soon as I can. Just letting you know that this film exists, and according to the internet it’s an outstanding production.
